Netwrix Acquires PingCastle to Empower Customers with Better Protection of Active Directory and Entra ID

A new addition to the Netwrix portfolio identifies underlying security vulnerabilities and helps remediate them both on premises and in the cloud.

FRISCO, Texas, August 1, 2024 – Netwrix, a vendor that delivers effective and accessible cybersecurity to any organization, today announced the acquisition of PingCastle. Its self-titled product identifies both known and unknown Active Directory (AD) domains, detects underlying security vulnerabilities, and helps prioritize the remediation of security risks with detailed action plans for the IT and security teams. PingCastle was developed by a well-renowned Active Directory (AD) expert and experienced threat response practitioner, Vincent Le Toux, and is used by tens of thousands of enterprise and mid-market organizations globally.

Netwrix customers will benefit from enhancing the security of their AD environment both on premises and in the cloud through the AD discovery and assessment conducted by PingCastle. It identifies what needs to be protected and empowers security teams to manage and track the remediation of all spotted issues and risks.

At the same time, PingCastle customers will be able to elevate their Active Directory security with Netwrix’s end-to-end solution for AD. It extends the PingCastle product with additional capabilities for continuous 24/7 AD monitoring, change tracking, real-time identity threat detection and response as well as object-level and full forest AD recovery. What will happen to PingCastle as a company?

The products you know and use will not be changed by the acquisition.  There are no plans to “end of life” any of the PingCastle products, and PingCastle development, support, and sales will be expanded with resources that augment the existing business  All outstanding quotes will be honored through their expiration.  The PingCastle founder and CEO, Vincent Le Toux, will continue to manage and help integrate PingCastle into Netwrix and will work with the Netwrix executive management team to help lead the PingCastle business into this exciting new phase of operation.

Will Netwrix maintain the free / community edition of the PingCastle product?

Netwrix understands that commercial acquisitions of open source solutions can create concerns within the community. We are committed to actively stewarding the project and maintaining the availability of the open source edition. As such, the PingCastle open source project has been transitioned to the Netwrix Github.

What will happen to company and product brands?

In the near term, both companies will continue to operate as separate, standalone brands with the exception that PingCastle will be known as “PingCastle by Netwrix.” Beyond that, the combined leadership teams will determine the long-term business brand, vision, and strategy. This information will be communicated in a transparent and timely manner.

How will this affect previous or ongoing sales and support contracts?

PingCastle will honor all previous commitments, including current support contracts, ongoing projects, and outstanding sales quotes through expiration.

How will the acquisition impact customer service and support?  

PingCastle customers will continue to receive the high-quality customer service they receive today and will benefit from additional support and development resources under Netwrix, including a full-featured support portal.
